Let Google Suggest Keyword Phrases For You

searching-google-suggestionsGoogle seemingly re-revolutionizes the search engine game every other day, making it imperative for SEO professionals to find new ways of benefiting from Google’s latest tools.

One such tool that is currently sending ripples through the SEO process is Google Suggest, which anticipates searchers’ intent even as they are typing in a phrase. Google aims to streamline the searching process by giving multiple finished searches in hopes that one of the suggestions will be a direct match for the respective user. Thus when you type in “online marketing” other phrases like ”online marketing companies list“ will appear in a dropdown box below.

This could be viewed as a distraction for webmasters and SEO professionals since it increases the likelihood of a searcher choosing one of Google’s suggestions. At the same time, however, it also provides opportunities for targeting new, possibly less competitive phrases. If you choose to embrace the new tool, you may find yourself garnering first-page rankings for some highly profitable phrases that you might never have considered otherwise.

The first step is re-conducting your keyword research. While such a task is burdensome, it’s necessary for deducing what Google Suggest is offering. Type in one of your targeted keyword or phrases and study the number of returns for each given suggestion. Are there any suggestions near the top of the list that have noticeably fewer returns than the others? If so, then you may have stumbled upon a valuable and relatively uncompetitive phrase.

To test this, enter the phrase into your preferred keyword research program. If the data shows the phrase is seldom searched - one you likely wouldn’t have targeted before - then you may have uncovered a gem.

Other SEO professionals probably aren’t after the phrase since it doesn’t appear the least bit valuable; however, Google Suggest is thrusting that very phrase upon the millions of users searching similar phrases.

There’s a good chance many of them will change their original search and instead click your new phrase, and your website could be right there waiting for them on page one of the results.
